Excitement

I am so excited. I overheard The Yorkshire Tortoise talking about a Mini-Meet happening on Saturday. Apparently an American is coming all the way over the pond to letterbox in Skerries and we are going to meet her! Honestly you would think YT could have informed me. How am I going to get ready in time? I have so much to do. I had better get carving, we need an event stamp.

Fireball gets ready to carve a stamp.

I need to jump on the computer too and get into Atlas Quest to look up Personal Travellers. Here in Ireland you only have to ask for a Personal Traveller, but I believe sometimes in America you have to perform little tricks or answer a puzzle before they will give it to you. I must find out if this will be the case on Saturday. Busy, busy, busy......

Stamping in.

I have been to the local letterboxers bespoke outfitters and am now kitted out with everything I need. There is a lovely big camouflage bag to travel around in, a large signature stamp, a small signature stamp, a logbook and some felt tip pens - or markers as they are called in America.

I am very proud of my signature stamps. The one I hope to use the most has a lovely picture of me breathing fire out of my mouth. Some visitor books are small and in case I find some of these I have a little signature stamp which is just the fireball which comes out of my mouth :-) Both of these signature stamps have a lovely red cover to keep them in so that the ink won't make me dirty.

The logbook is almost bigger than me! Now off we go looking for my first letterboxes.

Rain, rain, rain :-(

There has been nothing but rain, rain, rain since I was created, 35mm in fact :-(

I am so excited about going letterboxing and yet I am unable to get out. The Yorkshire Tortoise says in the old days it wouldn't have deterred her, but as she wants to plant boxes and take photos of me too it will just spoil the fun.

Anyway, I pointed out that I don't like to go out in the rain because it quenches the fire I like to breathe out of my mouth when muggles get too close - and that would spoil my fun too!

Beginnings

Fireball Lig-na-Paiste is an Irish Dragon and a Boxing Buddy. There are several translations of Lig-na-Paiste but the one I like is 'Last Great Reptile'. Saint Patrick chased all the serpents out of Ireland, but the Irish dragon called Lig-na-Paiste remained overlooked. The dragon outlived Saint Patrick, terrorising the neighbourhood until St. Murrough defeated it.

Fireball Lig-na-Paiste (Fireball for short) seemed a good name for my Boxing Buddy as he might be the Last Great Boxing Buddy. The Atlas Quest Boxing Buddy board has is very quiet now and Boxing Buddies seem to have gone out of fashion, but I wanted someone to accompany me, helping to maintain or plant Irish letterboxes blogging as we go, so I created this Boxing Buddy for myself. Of course, like the original Lig-na-Paiste, Fireball lives in Ireland too :-)

Fireball Lig-na-Paiste has a bag in which to carry his signature stamp, and his own logbook in which he hopes to stamp some Irish finds and record his travels.
